Hello PlayStation fans! As we celebrate the upcoming launch this Friday, AstrobotTeam Asobi’s tribute to 30 years of iconic PlayStation characters, stories, and magical moments, we want to thank you for the love and passion you’ve shown for PlayStation. Your unwavering support has made these past three decades possible. While PlayStation’s 30th anniversary is still a few months away, today we’re excited to share a few ways we’ll be commemorating this milestone.
Discover a nostalgic tribute to the original Gran Turismo, enjoy digital soundtracks from classic PlayStation games and create fun moments with our modern “Shapes of Play” collection – these are just some of the ways we invite you to join us in celebrating this month.
And for those of you who can’t wait to jump into Astro Bot, we’re excited to give you a first look at the game’s 30th Anniversary Photo Opportunity, which will take place in a central location in the game where the bots you’ve rescued on your space adventures will be hanging out, ready to dance to your stylish moves.
An early look at what lies ahead
- My first GT. Look out for a free trial this holiday season, designed to bring a wide range of players of all skill levels to the globally acclaimed Gran Turismo 7. This upcoming version will feature some of the beloved cars, tracks, and races that bring back the nostalgia and excitement of your first GT experience. Look out for more details on My First GT, available to all PS5 and PS4 players this holiday season.

- Digital game soundtracks. In partnership with Sony Music, each month from October through January we’ll be releasing a digital soundtrack collection of fan-favorite PlayStation series on Spotify for the first time ever. You’ll be able to stream the following game soundtracks on Spotify or purchase them from a variety of digital music stores, including Amazon Music, Apple Music, and participating music stores:

- God of War: Ghost of Sparta
- Twisted Metal
- Star Hawk

- Shapes of fun. Created by the PlayStation design team, the modern Shapes of Play collection gives you the power to create fun moments with our iconic shapes:
- Game Shapes: Battle is a board game in which you can challenge a friend to arrange four different shapes of the same color on the board to win.
- Game Shapes: Create is a set of magnetic blocks that can be placed in any direction to create fun shapes.
- Game Shapes: Boost allows you to gain modern abilities to regenerate your strength between games, especially after a complex boss fight.
Shapes of Play will launch in December 2024 exclusively via direct.playstation.com in the US, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Benelux. Pre-orders begin later today exclusively via direct.playstation.com.

- Free weekend with online multiplayer and esports tournaments. Join us later this month for a free weekend of online multiplayer and exhilarating esports tournaments! To celebrate the amazing online games and communities on PlayStation, we’re hosting a free weekend of online multiplayer on September 21 and 22.* During these dates, you can enjoy online multiplayer in games you own, without a PlayStation Plus membership, on PS5 and PS4 consoles.

That same weekend, we’ll be hosting a series of PS5 esports tournaments featuring NBA 2K24, NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, EA UFC 5, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive. If you own any of those games and qualify, you can compete on September 21 and 22 to win a special 30th anniversary avatar and other in-game prizes.
