Maximum number of particles is a currency that you can find in Power Spots and is required to battle Dynamax Pokémon in upcoming Max Battles in Pokémon Go.
Debuting in September 2024 as part of the “Max Out” season, alongside the “To the Max!” Special Research tutorial, you can start collecting this fresh resource ahead of the full debut of Max Battles on September 10.
Other additions in the “Max Out” season include fresh Galar Pokémon and regionally exclusive items, special “Galar Calling” research, a “Go All Out” event, and a Daily PokéCoin Bounty Ticket.
How to Get Max Particles in Pokemon Go
Max Particles, abbreviated as MP, is the currency needed to participate in Max Battles for Power Points, as well as to power up Max Moves.
Max Particles can be obtained in two ways:
- Interaction with power points (120 MP per power point per day)
- Walking (300 MP at 2 km)
Niantic describes interacting with Power Spots as the “primary source” of Max Particles, while the walking method is a secondary addition. Since you need Max Particles to enter Max Battles, it’s worth doing both methods to ensure you get the currency you need.
You can see how close you are to your next walking reward by tapping the radar in the lower right corner of the map screen and selecting the Power Spot tab.
Please note that there is a daily limit to the maximum number of particles you can earn, discussed in more detail later on this page.
What are Power Spots in Pokémon Go and how do they work?
Power Points, alongside PokéStops and Gyms, are intriguing places that are characterized by a high, purple appearance and glowing balls.
In the same way, the gym can organize a rally, from September 10th Power Spots can host Max Battleswhere you can battle Dynamax Pokémon.
Power points are also where can you buy Max Particlesin the same way you would spin a PokéStop or Gym disc to get items. Once the Max Particles are absorbed, the orbs around the Power Spot will disappear, indicating that you have claimed their resources for the day.
It is worth noting Power Stops do not replace PokéStops or Gyms.and in our experience they appear roughly in the middle of these other points of interest in business locations.
In addition, Power Spots will change locations regularlyNiantic says they will disappear every three to five days and reappear somewhere else to keep the map fresh.
You can check how long a particular Power Point has remained on the map by tapping the Nearby menu in the lower right corner of the Map screen, then selecting the Power Point tab.
What is the daily limit of Max Particles and why can’t I get more?
At the time of this feature’s launch, technically the daily maximum particle limit is 1000 MP.
However, the oddity of this system is that it doesn’t seem to allow you to gain more MP after reaching 800 MPso to reach the limit (or just beyond it), you’ll need to claim the final walk reward or the Power Point source just before it (for example, stopping at six Power Points to get 720 MP, then claim the walk reward to get 300 MP to get 1020 MP).
Thank you for The Silph Road subreddit community to test this option. We’ll update this guide if the thresholds change over time.
