Stockholm-based developer Paper Play Games has announced the release of its latest project, The Legend of Pippi Longstocking. The game is the first in a decade to translate the author’s original work into a mobile game, and it’s available now on iOS and Android!
For those unfamiliar, Pippi Longstocking is one of those eminent cultural exports aimed at children. Like Anne of Green Gables, the Moomins, and Harry Potter, the superhumanly sturdy, boyish Pippi has had her stories (originally written by author Astrid Lindgren) translated into dozens of languages around the world. So it’s surprising that she’s so rarely featured in the often child-focused world of mobile gaming.
The World of Pippi Longstocking seems like a relatively plain puzzle game combined with a digital toy box, where you’ll be able to navigate through different locations from the books, reenact certain moments, and discover up-to-date and compelling things. Think of it as a cross between a point-and-click adventure game and something like Scribblenauts, making it perfect for younger gamers.
Funnily enough, while researching this I discovered that Pippi Longstocking’s fictional father, the shipwrecked captain who becomes king of a tropical island, is actually based on a real person. Life can be stranger than fiction, eh?
The World of Pippi Longstocking is now available on iOS and Android!
