While it’s not a done deal yet, it appears that Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Hal Jordan in DC Studios’ Green Lanterns series.
We got a taste of what James Gunn has in store for the up-to-date DCU thanks to photos from the set of Superman and teaser trailer for the upcoming Creature Commandosbut for most projects in the works, there’s not much set in stone. Earlier this year, Lost creator Damon Lindelof, Ozark showrunner, and comic book writer Tom King joined Lanterns as writers, but it was too early to have any idea of the cast. Now, however, in a report from Nexus Point News it looks like at least the casting process is underway, as the role of Hal Jordan, which will be played by none other than Josh Brolin, who plays Thanos and Cable, has reportedly been offered to Josh Brolin.

It’s crucial to note that he reportedly hasn’t taken on the role yet, so he may not join the series. According to Nexus Point News, this version of Hal Jordan would be something of a Lantern legend and a veteran of the Corps. This is in line with what was previously reported — the series is set to follow an older Hal Jordan and a younger, newer Corps member, John Stewart (who is also a fan favorite who grew up on the Justice League animated series), with the logline explaining, “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the American heartland.”
Brolin would obviously be a major addition to the series (which officially got the green featherlight (pardon the pun) at HBO in June) and would show that Gunn and company are determined to get massive names even for their TV series. Don’t expect to see him for a while, though, as Creature Commandos will arrive first in December, and Gunn’s Superman next year.
