Ballistic Moon, the development studio behind the PlayStation 5 and PC versions of Until Dawn, has laid off several employees.
Eurogamer It was first reported that at least two staff members had posted on LinkedIn that they were leaving, but 11 Ballistic Moon developers have already posted about their departures or marked themselves as “open to work” and looking for a fresh job immediately.
It’s unclear exactly how many employees were laid off, or if the number was greater than 11, but IGN has reached out to Ballistic Moon for comment.
“Like many in this wonderful but turbulent industry, I will unfortunately be losing my job in my current role,” said Cassy Cornish, junior game designer, in LinkedIn post. “Unfortunately, my current position at Ballistic Moon is being eliminated, so I’m looking for new opportunities,” game programmer Stuart Campbell told other
There have been countless layoffs across the video game industry over the past two years, as major companies including Microsoft, Sony, and the struggling Embracer Group not only cut jobs but shuttered entire studios.
In May 2024, Microsoft closed down Arkane Austin, the developer of Redfall, and Tango Gameworks, the developer of Hi-Fi Rush and Ghostwire Tokyo, a decision that was met with shock and anger among industry members and fans.
Embracer Group shuttered Saints Row developer Volition in 2023, while Sony closed its London studio in March 2024 amid layoffs that affected 900 employees across its PlayStation business. Chinese video game company NetEase also reportedly laid off most of its staff at Visions of Mana developer Ouka Studios, with plans to shut down the company entirely.
