The Black Ops 6 beta, which kicked off over the weekend, has been a bit of a polarizing one. Call of Duty players are split on the up-to-date changes to movement and kill timing. And while many are having fun with the up-to-date body shield/hostage mechanic, there have been a lot of complaints about the feel of the game in the early days of the beta.
However, everyone agrees on how incredibly leisurely weapon leveling was in the beta. It’s so leisurely that it feels like a bug.

You can’t imagine; it really does take multiple plays to unlock even the basic set of attachments for your chosen weapon. The good news is that the XP earning rate for weapons in the Black Ops 6 beta isn’t what Treyarch intended.
The bad news? We’ll be stuck with our current weapon XP gain rate for the entire first weekend of the beta. Treyarch has confirmed that this will change, but not until the second weekend of the beta, which begins this Friday, September 6.
The developers have already released a few smaller fixes, as well as a playlist update that added a up-to-date map and mode, so you’ll have to deal with the current rate of weapon XP gains for the rest of the weekend.
However, Lawrence Metten, deputy design director at Treyarch, revealed on Twitter the developer’s intentions to change this. Metten responded to a tweet in which he complained about the speed at which weapons gain XP in the beta.
“We will be buffing weapon XP for weekend two. Current weapon leveling speeds are slower than expected” – Metten he said.
The first weekend of the Black Ops 6 beta will run through Wednesday, September 4. The game will be offline for a few days before returning on Friday, September 6. This will be your last chance to try out the multiplayer mode before its October launch.
