Originally released in 1997 for the PlayStation 1 and selling over 3 million copies, it was also ported to the Sega Saturn (the console of kings) and PC. It’s effortless to throw around the word “classic,” but Croc Legend of Gobbos is definitely one of the most beloved platformers of its era, and especially for PlayStation owners who lacked games like Mario 64 and Bank Kazooie, Croc Legend of Gobbos filled that gap admirably.

The remastered version will feature improved HD graphics, updated up-to-date control mechanics, and an true gameplay experience that will transport players to the golden age of 3D platformers. Additionally, fans will have access to Crocipedia, a immense and meticulously curated digital museum of long-forgotten development assets, including game design documents, concept art, animation tests, team interviews, and more.

Unusually, in addition to the remaster, the original creators are also returning after a 20-year hiatus. Argonaut Games was a huge part of the gaming scene in the 80s and 90s. Founded by gaming icon Jez San OBE, the team is known for pioneering 3D technology into the 2D gaming world of the 80s. Alongside Croc, the team is probably best known for pioneering the original Star Fox on the Super Nintendo, as well as the Super FX chip that enabled 3D visuals on the 16-bit console. The team also created some of the most iconic licensed games of the era, including the incredible Alien Resurrection and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and its sequel.
