Silent Hill 2 can be complex to play these days, but the fan-made Enhanced Edition of the PC version is finally complete.
While the Enhanced Edition of Silent Hill 2, a frankly awful semi-remaster of the game’s PC port, has been available to play for quite some time now, earlier this week the team behind it released its 10th and final update, somehow adding even more quality of life improvements to the already impressive overhaul. The whole point of the project was to add things like high-definition resolutions, upscaled images, widescreen camera fixes, and restored effects missing from the PC port, which it already managed to do, and much more besides.

Now, the final update is here, and it includes “improved environmental assets, restored flashlight reflections, improved water visuals, true 60fps FMV, a ton of general gameplay improvements, and more.” You can actually watch the entire video about all the improvements in this video , which clocks in at a whopping 70 minutes. Some of the improvements look better than others, but for the most part, it’s a really solid piece of work that makes a classic game run great on PC, the only up-to-date platform you can play it on.
Of course, Konami and Bloober Team want the Silent Hill 2 remake to be the definitive way to play the game, but I personally don’t understand why the former can’t go down a similar path to Metal Gear Solid, where we get a remake of 3 but also a remaster of the original game. Hey, I’m not Konami, who clearly has some kind of plan for the future of the series.
