Sorry, Batman fans, but it looks like there are no plans to make a video game spin-off of the series – although it sounds like James Gunn might want to make one

Despite what you may have heard about a potential Batman game, the man at the helm of DC Studios has downplayed any such plans.

After years of Marvel releasing films that relied so heavily on post-production touch-ups, making everything look surprisingly artificial, 2022 saw the release of The Batman , showing that yes, you can make a good superhero film that actually looks like a movie. It certainly did well at the box office, with critics and fans alike being wowed by it. So when Puck claimed there was a game in development “rooted in the 2022 Batman movie,” which clearly got a lot of people excited. The only problem? According to James Gunn himself, there is no game in development. Womp, womp!

Earlier this week, a fan asked Gunn directly if there was any truth to the reports of a game being sent to the Batman universe, to which he responded bluntly, “Unfortunately, there’s not a shred of truth to it.” Unfortunately, that’s a bit of a stretch, because it sounds like Gunn would love to have a game that exists in the same universe, but at this point, there’s clearly nothing like that in the works. Part of what lends credence to this rumor is the fact that Warner Bros. he has previously expressed interest in making games that would be canonical to Gunn’s fresh DCUalthough I don’t think aged Davet Zaslav realized how impossible that would be to accomplish given the current state of the gaming industry.

There haven’t been any solo Batman games for a good few years, though he’s appeared in more recent titles like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. We’re definitely overdue for one, and there’s a VR Arkham game on the way, though I suspect it’s not what most people are looking for.
