Stranger Video is a website that wants access to your webcam. Grant it access and it will show you a close-up of your face, while the background around you is cut out. Close your eyes to let it know you’re ready, and open them again when you hear a beep. It will now connect you with a stranger who will do the same: the first person to blink loses.
You you can play here.
I play this right now and no one else in the world is. Let’s all play this together.
Stranger Video is the work of Eieio, who makes “stuff for the 2000s internet.” It has that old-school, lofi, 2000s vibe, like a holdover from the personal web. It’s also by the same creator as One Million Checkboxes, which Edwin wrote about in June.
Both of these people are nominated in Tina’s Awardswhose goal is to celebrate “the other web, the small and handmade one, the one that’s not trying to sell anything or monetize anything, but is instead about people using the digital tools we all have access to to create the kinds of small, personal experiences you don’t usually see ‘in the feed.’” It’s a treasure trove of lovely websites.
Either way. Keep your eyes where your mouths are, RPS readers.
