2025 is the year we finally get the unofficial (and stunning) remake of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

In a gaming world where discontinuation is the most typical response to fan-made remakes or tribute games, it’s incredibly refreshing that Bethesda tolerates such projects. Next A free remake of Unity created by 2024 players DaggerfallIt looks like the long-developed Total Conversion mod will finally be released in 2025 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in the aftermath Skyrimengine.

In a recent video titled “The Path To Release (Skyblivion Roadmap 2024)”, the modding team known as TESRenewal explains that they have completed eight of the game’s nine regions, reworking every detail of the 2006 game through custom development. Each of OblivionCyrodiil’s nine regions feature unique flora and fauna that the team can recreate, and that’s not just the immense landscapes and cities.

Gold Coast, for example, is almost complete, with a recent version of the main city of Anvil, “redesigned to realize the original concept art.” This is the most insanely ambitious project, and as you can see in the video below, it looks exactly like it Excellent.

Given Skyrim itself is 13 years antique, which is a testament to how stunning its engine is Skyblivion looks (although it is supported by Bethesda Skyrim: Special Edition updates). It actually seems a bit annoying that Bethesda will rely on the technology it uses The Elder Scrolls VIbut she still looks much better than the 19-year-old Oblivion original.

The film’s narration explains that in order to release Skyblivionare legally required to rework every asset, including all 3D models, which is a task of unimaginable scale. (Bethesda employed hundreds of people who worked for four years for full pay to do this for the first time – a group of unpaid volunteers working in their free time). the team is looking for more volunteers— especially for navigation griduser interface and 3D modeling – to facilitate them achieve their ultimate goal in the game.

This whole thing is making me dizzy. The Skyblivion team also wrote recent music for each section of the game and are even considering porting over the DLC after completing the main game. Planned since 2011, prototypes by 2014, and full development from 2018, it will surely be released in 2025, probably many years before Bethesda’s follow-up production, The Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell.

Kudos to Bethesda for allowing such amazing projects to develop instead of sending takedown notices and legal threats. To be able to play Skyblivionyou will need to have legal versions of both Oblivion GOTY Deluxe AND Skyrim: Special Editionalthough considering that you can currently pick up the former for $5 AND the latter for $10 on Steam it’s not a massive expense.
