Welcome back to sedate EOFY savings. Hot hardware deals seem to be the unofficial talk of the day – namely, budget-friendly VR headsets and significantly downsized controllers in “fancy colors.” I also like the look Red Dead Redemption II will be only $24. For what this game offers, it’s a crazy price point. Buy it. Play. I’ll thank you later, partner.
In retro news, I’m celebrating my 34th birthday The Bonanza Brothers., a great coin-op game that spawned tons of console conversions. Created by a petite team at Sega – including artist/designer Manabu Kusunoki, who later went on to work on Armored Dragon— this System 24 title played at the time and looked like nothing else. I remember loving the 2.5D level design, the comedic animations of the titular thief “heroes”, and the rarity of being able to plunder these 12 levels in 2P split-screen co-op.

Nintendo Switch OLED in black

The Nintendo Switch OLED’s brighter, more dynamic and slightly larger screen has made me want to undock it more often – and not just when I’m about to travel. 8/10, great console version.

The final version of Disco Elysium

A 10/10 masterpiece for significantly reduced money. A unique mix of crime noir, paper RPGs and a touch of existentialism theory. Its twisting plot, memorable characters, and sheer depth of choices make for quite an experience.

X/S controller robot, white

Lowest price I’ve seen for a controller variant that inexplicably refers to a robot. Seriously, why is the “robot” exactly white? Why not white “dandruff” or “glass of milk on a paper plate in a snowstorm”? We may never know, friends.

Diablo IV

Diablo 4 is a stunning sequel with a near-perfect endgame and progression design that makes putting it down absolutely unbearable. Truly, one of the most polished ARPGs ever created. 9/10, amazing.
