11 Bit provides a release window for Frostpunk 1886, alongside the release of Frostpunk 2’s DLC

11 Bit Studios has provided an update on the development of Frostpunk 1886, a recent version of the original Frostpunk game currently scheduled for release in 2027. It is an addition to the first DLC for Frostpunk 2.

Let’s start with Frostpunk 1886. Game director Maciej Sułecki shares some behind-the-scenes insight into what this will entail.

Frostpunk 1886 is a remake of the original game in Unreal Engine, but it’s more than just a graphical upgrade, as 11 Bit is working to expand the game with recent mechanics and content. Sułecki distinguishes the following areas:

  • Improving citizen behavior through improved animations and motion capture
  • Adding more rich pieces of everyday life in New London
  • Redesigned lighting system emphasizing the severity of the Frozen Land
  • Improved building textures to create a more immersive city.

Unfortunately, all this is still a long way away, according to Sułecki, “about two years”, which confirms the target of release for 2027.

So it’s good that another Frostpunk game came out very recently, right? 11 Bit today released the Fractured Utopias DLC for Frostpunk 2, its first expansion to enhance the Utopia Builder mode. This feature is now available on both PC and console versions. Includes an update that also includes free content.
