The queues on the servers in Once Human are annoying, but the game’s creators promise at least some “compensation” for your troubles

In the past, game developer Starry Studio had to introduce player limits on the server, which increased waiting times, but at least something will come of it.

Like many games these days, Once Human is one of those titles that gained popularity astronomically quickly, making you think “where the hell did you come from?” It’s so popular that it managed to reach a peak concurrent player count of 231,668, according to SteamDB Database. But of course, like many games before it that were met with a larger than expected launch reception, it wasn’t received very well. Many players have trouble getting into the game, as Starry Studio has imposed a limit on the number of players on a given server, which has resulted in many getting stuck in long waiting lines.

To explain the reasons behind his decision, Starry posted a compact Q&A session last postwhere it was explained that “after analyzing the data from our online server, we found that the increase in the number of players exceeded our previous expectations. When too many players are on the same server, we risk losing server data. In addition, too many players on the same server may affect the game experience, as players will have to queue before they can log in. Therefore, we have no choice but to limit the number of players on each server. But we acknowledge that this has indeed caused inconvenience to some players, so we are working to improve it. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Starry also explained why having too many players on a server would affect the game’s experience, writing that since it is “an open-world survival game where resources on the map are numerically limited”, players would have “difficulty finding the right place to create their territory” if there were too many of them on a single server. Starr also plans to raise the limit for each server in due time, but is also working on long-term methods to relieve the servers.

Thankfully, an upcoming update due out on July 18 will offer some sort of “compensation” if you’re stuck in the queue for too long. What that will be hasn’t been explained, but at least from now on you’ll get something while you wait. Hopefully, Starry will also be able to address those concerns about the seasonal reset to August, as promised.
