Hey PlayStation players! I’m excited to announce that Shadows of Doubt is coming to PS5 on September 26th. We can’t wait for you to start investigating and tracking down suspects when the game launches on PS5 next month!
Shadows of Doubt is an immersive crime simulation game in which players take on the role of a private investigator, searching the city for clues and evidence while searching for suspects in various crimes and offenses.
As a private investigator, you will undertake tasks and investigations ranging from thefts and suspicious cases to kidnappings and murders, uncovering evidence in various ways to track down the suspect. Our dream is for players to feel fully immersed as a detective wandering the streets of a active, living city. You can buy and decorate your own apartment, and every street, building and room is fully explorable, giving you the freedom to fully explore – and investigate – the sci-fi noir world we have created.
Everyone in the city has their own life, their own living space, job, friends, and daily routines. They’ll have a coffee or dance at a bar. And with a serial killer on the loose, any one of them could be the next victim.
This also means that anyone could be the culprit, and it’s up to you to track them down. While every case is different, you’ll usually want to try a few tried and tested methods to get some early leads. Get out a fingerprint scanner to scan the scene for prints, or if there’s CCTV available, searching it can assist you spot any suspicious characters. There are a number of ways to gather evidence, from looking through call logs to find recent contacts or collecting receipts that have been thrown in the bin. Alternatively, there’s always the option to go the more questionable route, bribing citizens for information, hacking into private terminals or breaking into private homes. Your actions can have repercussions, but we’ve built Shadows of Doubt with multiple ways to solve each case, meaning you can always be the detective you want to be.
Aside from improving as a detective and earning a tidy sum of money for solving each case, the main form of player progression in Shadows of Doubt is Sync Disks, genetic upgrades that provide a enduring upgrade and raise your Social Credit. Each time you find a Sync Disk in a town or receive one as a reward, you’ll be given a choice of upgrades that allow for intriguing decisions and introduce RPG elements to the game. Upgrades range from customary buffs like extra health or inventory space to more intriguing modifiers that subtly change the way you play. Social Credit levels act as a form of experience level that you gain by completing cases. There are a number of benefits to leveling up, from being able to buy property in a town to citizens being more willing to let you into their homes. There are many other benefits that I can’t wait for you to discover, but the general idea is that you can choose to play Shadows of Doubt with different builds in different generated towns.
Exclusively on PS5, we were able to employ the DualSense wireless controller to further immerse players in the world of Shadows of Doubt. Feel the nuances of lockpicking with haptic feedback, or – my personal favorite – feel the subtle sound of rain as the weather changes. But of course, Shadows of Doubt wouldn’t be a true detective sim without an umbrella at your disposal.
Shadows of Doubt has been a true labor of love for me and the team over the past 7 years, and we’re so excited to see the response the game has already received. It’s a game that can be as deep or as elaborate as you want it to be, and we’ve worked tough to build the intricate systems that drive the sandbox of crimes and citizens of the game to keep the experience fun and fresh, no matter your play style. We can’t wait to see how you solve each case when Shadows of Doubt launches on PS5 on September 26th.
