Prison Architect 2due for release in September has been postponed indefinitely, with the studio that created the game also announcing that it will refund customers who pre-ordered the prison building simulator. It’s another setback for publisher Paradox Interactive after the cancellation Sims-how the game is playing in June.
Originally released in 2012 on PC, Prison architect allows players to build and maintain huge prisons filled with criminals and guards. Original game received updates over the years and was even ported to consoles and mobile devices. In 2019, Paradox Interactive bought the franchise from original creators Introversion Software, and in 2024, they announced a full, 3D sequel. However, the game’s release was delayed earlier this year.. And now the premiere has been delayed again, with no novel date given.
On August 2, Paradox and developer Kokku announced that Prison Architect 2 was not supposed to arrive on September 3. In a post on the official Paradox forumThe developers explained that they “need more time to improve both the game’s performance and its content.”
The studio and publisher also added that they “cannot commit” to a novel release date or time window as they re-evaluate “the scope of work that needs to be done before the game is ready for release.” They also warned that communication between the team and fans would be narrow until they felt more “comfortable” showing the game and talking about a release schedule.
Due to this indefinite delay, Paradox Interactive is refunding all pre-orders on all platforms and has committed to including all previously promised digital items in the base game.
In a Q&A session accompanying the announcement, the studio and Paradox emphasized that Prison Architect 2 has not been canceled.
The last few years of Paradox have been a mess
This assurance was probably made because recently Paradox delayed and then canceled its Sims-how to play Life through youAs a result, some players may fear that a similar fate awaits the prison builder sequel.
It also doesn’t aid that Paradox has had a series of failures and mishaps over the past year. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2was first announced in 2019was almost canceled after many delays and a change of developer in 2023.. The Lighthouse Keepers League was an exorbitant flop.and Cities: Skylines 2 was released in such penniless condition that Paradox was forced to put all DLC plans on hold so the developers could focus on fixing the city-building module.
Even Prison Architect 2 had some problems before this delay, as the original studio — Double Eleven — left the project due to a financial disagreement with Paradox, which led to The publisher will replace the team with Kokku in 2024.
