How to Play Zenless Zone Zero Multiplayer with Friends

Published:

Sharp eye Ground Zero without Zen players may have noticed that their account not only contains a friends list, but also a journal that can be filled with recent multiplayer encounters. And considering that ZZZ is pretty much a single-player game at its core, you may be wondering how you and your buddies can meet up in-game for some co-op time.

Here’s what multiplayer is like in Zenless Zone Zero and how to enjoy it.

Does Zenless Zone Zero have multiplayer?

The answer, as we have already indicated, is: “yes, But“.

Yes, Zenless Zone Zero offers co-op play. But only in a few very specific contexts.

First of all, there is Arcade Modewhich can be accessed by visiting the Godfinger Arcade on Sixth Street, a tiny walk from your hero’s base at the Random Play movie rental store. To unlock it, you’ll need to progress through the game’s initial story missions: Billy the Kid will invite you to the arcade shortly after the prologue ends, after which it becomes available for free play.

Step into an arcade and you’ll be given the option to play in a few different modes, with Arcade Mode allowing you to play cooperatively or competitively with other real people. The only games that currently support this feature are Snake Duel’s “Clash” mode and Soul Hounds III’s “Group Hunt” mode, both of which allow four people to play together in a match.

Secondly, after completing Nekomata’s story mission and unlocking the VR device for the teachers’ room in the random game mode, you can choose Careless challenge in “multiplayer” mode to take on the weekly boss alongside two other players (each of you can bring one Agent of your choice, and you can’t switch characters during the fight). This is probably more in line with what you had in mind when you imagined Zenless Zone Zero as a co-op game, but keep in mind that you can only take part in this challenge up to three times per week.

Real friends are fine, but video game characters never have to log off to walk the dog, eat real food, or spend quality time with family. Then make sure you claim all the free characters in Zenless Zone Zero.
