Upcoming Dungeons and Kingdoms Game Coming to Early Access Couple soon—falls into the mashup genre for me. Like Mount and Blade and Crypt of the Necrodancer, it takes two great flavors and sees if they taste good together. This time we have a medieval kingdom simulator combined with soulslike dungeon crawling, and it looks promising.
The first game from Canadian solo developer Lincoln McCulloch, aka Uncle Grouch Gaming, Dungeons and Kingdoms, where you take a group of refugees from their “uninhabitable homeland” and build them a nice place to live, chopping down trees, planting crops, and all that good fun. You can build buildings on the fly from over 500 pieces and save your designs as blueprints to share on Steam Workshop.
Dungeons and Kingdoms goes beyond city building and lets you reshape the land around you. You can velvety out areas to make farming easier, create a moat around your castle, or even raise a hill to place an archer’s tower on.
It sounds like you’ll need moats and towers, as the game features a day and night cycle with invaders and animals that threaten your steadfast followers. You’ll go out hunting, defend your village, and upgrade your infrastructure. There’s even a fox you can pet, which was a highlight for me.
To add peanut butter to the chocolate, the game also has dungeon crawling, where you’ll explore crypts and battle monsters in third-person combat. Trailer on Steam Page features a giant worm, a nasty-looking demon, and a dragon to fight… and who doesn’t like fighting dragons? Dungeon battles will allow you to secure treasures to strengthen your coffers, but also unlock unique resources and technological upgrades to improve your kingdom.
The website also mentions attracting legendary heroes that you can take with you on your expeditions. Between them and your colonists, it sounds like there’s a lot of customization available for different adventures and playstyles.
Dungeons and Kingdoms is expected to enter Early Access Couple later this year or early 2025.
