Drop Troop is a standalone, mobile version of the Helldivers 2 format, coming soon

Published:

  • Drop Troop is a one-handed shooter where you drop from orbit into enemy territory
  • Complete the tasks, kill the enemies and get out of this alive and well.
  • Can you guess where he gets his inspiration?

Helldivers 2 is set to be one of the biggest success stories of 2024, and for good reason. Four-player co-op has been getting dull for a while now, and aside from a few long-running success stories like Deep Rock Galactic, there hasn’t been much that’s stood out. But have you ever wanted to feel that quick adrenaline rush of jumping in and shooting aliens, then running away without having to boot up your computer? Well, that’s where the upcoming shooter Drop Troop comes in.

It’s simple to see from a quick glance that Drop Troop wears its inspiration on its sleeve. You drop from orbit into a hostile location, complete objectives, and then try to escape with your limbs intact. What it offers is a throwback, retro take on the concept, with some engaging Desert Strike vibes.

But how does it work mechanically? Well, it’s a one-handed shooter, similar to survival-like, where your character will start shooting enemies on his own, and you’ll just have to control him. You can get upgrades to aid you, different types of armor, and different weapons, all with unique abilities. Watch the trailer below!

Once…

It occurred to us that at some point a game like Drop Troop would have been a mobile spin-off of a main game (e.g. Helldivers 2), and it’s really engaging to see how much of the experience itself was faithfully carried over while also dealing with so many limitations.
