I haven’t played Counter-Strike 2 in ages, but I know a large update when I see one. That’s right: Valve has added a bunch of novel crates right behind the CT spawn point, near the A-bomb site. This means players can now apply these crates to jump from the CT to the catwalk without much fuss, whereas before they had to apply their teammates’ heads as a springboard. What does this mean to the layman who occasionally plays the game? More than you might think!
Just past the CT spawn, you’ll find a few novel crates tucked away just below the walkway above. Here’s a clip of the novel powerup in action:

Previously, as a terrorist or counter-terrorist, you wouldn’t be able to get to the walkway without: 1) facilitate; 2) laboriously circling the bombsite. The latter becomes more challenging when you add in the ability to apply the exact smoke grenade shown in the clip above, alongside possible players on Long A (after going through the smoke), or on the walkway, or at the bombsite itself.
It seems like Valve put these novel crates in to even things out. Dust 2 has historically been a Terrorist map (basically easier positional play for Attackers) and now only requires one smoke grenade to block a CT’s vision, whereas previously it was two. With these crates, CTs are less likely to get stuck between their spawn and the smoke, allowing them to rotate and defend more easily.
As you can probably tell, I’m no CS strategist. But the introduction of these crates will almost certainly make life easier for CTs and will likely create a ton of novel plays – possibly a novel meta. Ed ten years younger would have gone to Twitch to see how pros are adapting to these crates as they try to climb the ranks. Those days are behind me now, and I think my stress levels are thanking me for it.
Other things worth noting in the update? No, really. You can check them out Here.
