After a hiatus due to Shadow of the Erdtree, the Elden Ring seamless co-op mod is now back with expansion support

After a tiny break due to the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, Elden Ring’s Seamless collaboration the mod is now ready for apply in the extension. Yesterday, relaying a message from mod creator Luke Yui, Seamless Co-op Discord moderator Dalvik wrote that “While not perfect, it has reached a state where it can be used to play Elden Ring and the DLC in co-op.”

FromSoftware’s unique implementation of cooperative play is great if you want to invite a stranger or friend into your game to lend a hand you fight a boss, but Elden Ring’s open world and death/boss disconnects make experiencing everything from start to finish a challenge an onerous chore with a friend. Seamless collaboration solved this problem, with no unnecessary hassle and impressively refined solutions. It runs in a separate .exe file with its own saves and on its own servers, bypassing Easy AntiCheat. Once you’ve reached your friend’s instance via the uncomplicated password matching system, you’ll stay there until you’re ready to leave.

The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion understandably changed the game enough that Luke Yui responded by requiring an extensive mod update, which he delivered in record time. It’s worth noting that all Seamless Co-op saves from previous versions will still work and can be downloaded for DLC, and Seamless Co-op supports optional invasions for the first time.

In a conversation with PCG senior editor Wes Fenlon, Dalvik also outlined other improvements made in the update. Thanks to the mod’s more modular structure, emotes and items acquired in conversations will update correctly for all players, and everyone present in the instance can now participate in optional Evergaol boss encounters together.

We wondered if the novel Scadutree Fragment system could wreak havoc on Seamless Co-op, but Dalvik says FromSoft has made it easier for Luke Yui: “The DLC added a lot of new mechanics, interesting edge cases, and changes to the source code—some of which could seem mundane to the player—but required new solutions to work properly,” Dalvik explained. “Fortunately, Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes are very localized and do not require any special timing.”

You can now download the latest version of Seamless Co-op from Elden Ring Nexusand embark on an adventure into the Shadowlands with a friend – but remember that Luke Yui will continue to work on ironing out some of these bugs in the coming days.

Luke Yui noticed on Discord that some initial Seamless Co-op downloads are missing key files due to a Nexus bug, so you may need to re-download the mod from the project website GitHub page if this happens to you. In addition, the novel version of Seamless Co-op includes novel items that allow you to activate online features, and to receive them, you must rest in the Place of Grace.
