What do the fishing rod statistics mean at Fisch?
There are 5 rod stats available in Fisch: bait speed, luck, control, resistance and maximum catch weight.
Bait speed determines how quickly you can hook a fish before you start reeling it in. This happens when you can click or tap on the screen to shake the rod before the progress bar appears. A higher bait speed means you won’t have to wait as long between catches, but this usually comes at a high cost to luck and resilience, meaning your catches will be of lower quality and harder to land.
Luck it’s relatively elementary and simply gives you a better chance of catching a scarce fish. However, especially in the early game, this usually comes with a very huge penalty to bait speed, meaning you could potentially catch better things more often, but much slower.
In the mini-fame of fishing, some rods have a larger white stripe than others. The statistic that changes this is called Control and the higher the number, the better. You most likely noticed the Control stat early in the game if you purchased the Training Fishing Rod (it has the largest bar of any regular fishing rod). Most rods have bars that are the same size or very slightly different, but two of the newest late-game rods – the Sunken Rod and Rod of the Depths – have huge white stripes.
Resistance is a complicated statistic that determines how much a fish will struggle when caught. For rods with a negative Resilience value, this can make catching – especially scarce – fish quite tough, but is usually used to balance rods with already good Luck and Bait Speed.
Finally, all rods have Maximum catch weight value measured in kilograms. In the early and mid-game, this isn’t much of an issue, but it’s definitely something to take into consideration when you start hunting down some of the more unique catches in Fisch. For example, the Isonada you need to complete the Vertigo bestiary weighs almost a ton (but hopefully by then you’ll be rocking something that will last).
